CAVALLINO PLACES TO SEE: FORTS, FORTIFICATIONS AND BUNKERS
After visiting the barracks, the telemetric towers, the forts, the batteries and the various military fortifications erected along the Cavallino Treporti coastline to defend Venice during the Great War, you just have to complete your historical itinerary with the German bunkers of the Second War.
In fact, between 1943 and 1945 the German Todt Organization built numerous fortified works, including bunkers, blockhouses and pillboxes in reinforced concrete. They are anti-aircraft and anti-landing positions created to house artillery and machine guns on the coastline.
Many of these military works were destroyed by the Germans themselves. What remains today is the Cavallino Nord (north) Battery at the Cavallino lighthouse and the Nuova (new) Battery at Punta Sabbioni.
